EcoLogo Helps Concerts and Events Rock a Greener Standard

Hundreds of events occur every day in North America, from sporting events to meetings, each requiring a variety of material resources such as tableware, food products and signage. During these events, a large amount of solid waste such as food packaging and waste products such as CO2 emissions from shipping materials to a tradeshow are produced – a significant amount that could end up in the landfill or the air.
The EcoLogo Events standard (CCD-095) addresses three environmental impact areas:
1. Waste,
2. Materials,
3. Energy, Carbon and Transport.
In order to be eligible for EcoLogo certification, an event must obtain a minimum number of points in each of these three areas. To receive points, a combination of tasks such as proper disposal methods and the use of greener products and services must be completed. This points-based system provides flexibility, allowing event organizers to decide which green actions are best suited to their event.
Through the EcoLogo Program, events are encouraged to purchase renewable electricity, to offset carbon emissions and to minimize waste through the selection and use of recyclable and compostable products.
