EcoLogo Launches Public Review of Printing and Writing Paper Standards

paper-ccd-review.jpg

EcoLogo is calling for citizen and stakeholder comments for the second review of the Program’s standards for Printing and Writing Paper (also known as fine paper) and Uncoated Mechanical Printing Paper (newsprint).

The EcoLogo standard for paper considers factors like reducing water emissions, making efficient use of recycled fiber, improving energy use, forestry practices, including conserving habitat, and helping to lower the overall impact on the environment.

Both EcoLogo paper standards cover issues such as fiber use, chemical oxygen demand, toxicity, energy use, global warming potential, acidification, solid waste, water use, chemical emissions, forest management, recycled content, and bleaching practices.

The draft versions of the new proposed standards will be open for 46 days beginning February 19, 2009, and ending April 6, 2009.

To participate in the standards review process, the EcoLogo team is asking those interested to send an email to Robin Duchesneau at: rduchesneau@terrachoice.com, or fax: (613) 247-2228, specifying your first and last name, your affiliation and your interest in participating in either the Printing and Writing Paper review (CCD-077) and/or the Uncoated Mechanical Printing Paper review (CCD-078).
