Micca Paint Opens Store #14 in Mississauga
President and CEO of TerraChoice Scott McDougall displays one of the many EcoLogo-certified acrylic paints on offer at a store opening with Jennifer Clouston, Director of Marketing at Micca Paint.
Micca Paint, Canadian family owned and operated architectural paint manufacturer, held its grand opening for the newest location in Mississauga, ON, yesterday afternoon.
The grand opening in Mississauga counts as store #14 for the company that began in Montreal, QC, in 1985. What makes Micca Paint novel is not only their commitment to high quality paint, but how they have proudly been a steward for the environment since very early on in their manufacturing days. Micca latex-acrylic paints have been with the EcoLogo Program since 1994.
Among the attendees at the event were Michel Cutrone, President of Micca Paint; Jack Labib, Store Manager; Jennifer Clouston, Director of Marketing for Micca; Georges Khalil, Director of Production at Micca Paint and part-owner of the new Mississauga location; and TerraChoice’s President and CEO Scott McDougall.
At the opening, Scott was able to share with guests the importance of third-party certification such as EcoLogo on paint products. Paints can have a long list of harmful impacts on the environment and human health. As these products may release volatile and toxic chemicals and may lead to smog formation, limiting the amount of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and reducing toxic emissions to the environment is extremely important. Micca Paint boasts more than 15 years of experience in manufacturing low VOC paints.
Greenwashing is unfortunately rampant in the paint industry. Many paint cans display the words “Zero VOC” and even go so far as to make this claim look like a false label. As Micca Paint points out, no paint is really zero VOC as there are many unknown factors when applying paint to surfaces (the industry standard does not account for multiple coats of paint and the addition of colorants to the mix, but they do say that less than 5 grams per liter can be considered “zero”). For this reason, Micca Paint prefers to display the EcoLogo mark on the gallon as proof of their environmental leadership rather than saying zero VOCs. This means that they comply with stringent environmental criteria as defined in the EcoLogo standard.
The next time your office or home needs a new coat of paint, look for EcoLogo-certified paints such as Micca Paint and breathe easier knowing that this paint is a greener, healthier choice.
