Last week, The Globe and Mail published a series on companies that are carving out a niche in organics. Frank T. Ross & Sons Ltd., which manufactures the Nature Clean line of hypoallergenic products was featured in the second of the three stories. This article showcases the company’s growth and its recent partnership with Nelvana, a division of Corus Entertainment Inc.
Doug Murphy, President of Nelvana, recognized that there was a lack of safe natural bathing products specifically for children and made a deal with F.T. Ross to create a variety of personal care products, including bubble baths, shampoos and hand soap. Frank T. Ross has been producing its Nature Clean line of household cleaning products since 1964 and most also carry EcoLogo certification – demonstrating true environmental leadership. Nelvana will license the special line of products for its Treehouse television network, which has a Canada-wide audience of toddlers and preschoolers in more than eight million homes. The new product line launches in April and will feature characters from such shows as The Backyardigans, Max & Ruby and Franklin the Turtle.
This is a great accomplishment for both Frank T. Ross and Nelvana. It also means that parents now have the option to purchase safer and natural bathing products that are still fun for the kids.
The second license featured in the article has been struck with the Smithsonian Institution in Washington. F. T. Ross has to manufacture a line of household products and cleaning agents carrying the Institution’s label.
